Item #4) Scottish Broom Report: Richard reports on our joint effort with the USFS to eradicate the invasive Scottish Broom plant downstream from the springs. Members agree to inspect the site following the meeting and cut away any new or missed growth. Concern is expressed that the pile of cut plants is drying out and seed pods have opened. We hope that the USFS can remove the plants by heliby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Glad to hear the closure does not affect DCHS directly, and that our monthly meeting will go as scheduled. See you there!!by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Baja sounds great. Was the fish you ate for dinner a tuna? You sure do catch some tasty tuna. Moonlight hike: Thanks for posting this, brother Bear. I'm looking forward to this hike, even though I will be at the DCV meeting and will already have hiked out from there. Two possible destinations have been discussed, and it will be left up to the energy level of participants which one is taken.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ha ha. After I posted it I realized that it looked like wedding. Should have put a period for clarity. Maybe it was a wedding of some kind, only nobody knew about it!by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I spent the day at the hot springs yesterday. It was a quiet day with few visitors. We watered the trees, gathered some trash although there wasn't much, checked on the Scottish Broom, and spent about a half hour going over the Womb with razor blades to remove wax. The Scottish Broom is showing no signs of regrowth, but we did find some stalks that were missed by the eradication effort. Sby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I noticed the shots of Ron. A great DCV coordinator and photogenic to boot! I'll be heading down to the springs tomorrow I hope, and will check the stumps for new growth. I'll also water the trees. And myself :-)by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks, Celtfire. I just went to the imagestation URL and had quite a time of it. I had to register first, then afterwards I couldn't find the photos. I used the online help and found out that I have to put in the URL you gave me again. So, I'm off to do that now. Peace.........Sycamoreby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Glad to hear that, Sam. It helps me keep faith in my neighbors! I'll tackle that wax soon, unless someone beats me to it. Anyone visiting DCHS this time of year PLEASE water the trees!! Thanks........Sycamoreby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When we did the Scottish Broom eradication effort with the USFS, Celtfire took some photos. Celtfire...did you post those photos here? If not, do you plan to? I would really like to see them! Peace...........Sycamoreby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We did get one slight sprinkle in the night. I could tell by my windshield in the morning. It must have been just a faint trace of sprinkling, with no moisture evident in the morning. I wouldn't blame the USFS if they closed the forest again. We need a good el nino year at least, and preferably a few years in a row with good rains. Hi Sam and Ron, I was at the springs on Friday, and there wasn't any candle wax problem then, so it must have been Friday night. Friday was a quiet day with mostly local visitors. We gathered some trash from upstream and found some glass bottles. (Rolling Rock) Later we saw some of the local people drinking Rolling Rock in glass bottles. Not a bad suggestion, Paul P, although that would mean no one gets to enter and pay by envelope whenever Mike is not readily available to staff the gate. I like Ron's thoughts here, and agree. None of us really knows what happened, what was said, how it was said...etc. It is easy to jump to conclusions, but remember that we are dealing with hearsay here.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yeah, I caught the sarcasm, Rick, and laughed my head off at the exchange between you and Mojave Green. Just thought I'd throw in what I see as a practical way to deal with rattlesnakes. I was afraid of them at one time, and definitely learned to respect them, but also came to see them as beautiful animals.by sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Most of the rattlesnakes I've seen around here have been so tame you couldn't even get them to rattle. I did have a sidewinder rattle at me once, though, when I walked close to it. I was glad for the warning! Guess I haven't met those nazi snakes yet, but I agree with Rick that using a gun on them is not the best way to deal with them. Hi Matrix, Thanks for all the good words! You may not have time to help us out often, but you certainly do help us and the springs by leaving no traces. We appreciate you!! I don't get too hot about the "nitwits" at the springs, because people like you are clearly the majority. Hard work, fun, great people, and the good feeling of helping my favorite place all came together yesterday as we "swept up" the broom. When I saw that the USFS had brought an axe among their tools, I thought that that was overkill, because the broom I had seen so far was all small-stemmed stuff that could be gotten with pruning shears. When we got into the thicket, though, I was surpby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Item 9) Other: Wizard gives a brief report on hiking at De Anza recently, an enjoyable experience. Richard reports that there is some grafitti upstream. I enjoyed going to the springs both Friday and Saturday, and saw lots of evidence that DCV is having a good effect there. No one with glass all day Friday, and only one glass user observed on Saturday. All daytime users were packing out their trash at the end of each day. Respect was evident throughout both days, with no sign of poor etiquette from anyone. Some trash was left by night users aby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Well, ezzpete, the posts commenting on Scott's crowd were just that...not in any way aimed at you. It seems Scott p.o.'d a lot of people in a number of ways. Nothing against the 70's, but I don't think anybody wants to see a return to the days when the springs were a "hippie commune" full of trash and high bacteria counts from people toileting too near the stream. Hi Wizard! Yes, the channel leads from the grassy area to the pool, and appears to have been cut to make access from that direction easier. There are two poles left and the tarp material from the teepee tent. The poles aren't really all that heavy if you just take one at a time. We found that balancing the pole across the shoulder makes it fairly easy to carry, and the weight is not that notby sycamorelaughing - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Had a near-perfect day at the hot springs Saturday. First off, no Scott. I talked to lots of people, and discovered that most had been annoyed by Scott to one degree or another. Well, I just figured he was well-intentioned but misguided, but I discovered another bit of handywork attributed to him, and if he really did it then I am sorely pissed at him.
