Away from the pools. One was just off the trail just past the wash out and the other was at the base of the trail on the flat area which touch the creek. They were in red.by coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Made a quick trip in from the Bowen side. Arrived at 7:30 am and found that the water was as much as a foot over the serenity pool. I suggest not trying a crossing at that height since it was almost over my neck and very swift. For safety one will need to come in from the PCT approaches. The flowers are still doing well and the snow with the early morning sun made it a beautiful hike. I would sugby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I neglected to mention I had met a PCT Through Hiker on the evening of the 7th. My first question was how was Onxy Summit on the Trail. He stated it was ice most of the way up from White Water. He added that Fuller Ridge was as bad. He was obviously in great shape and wearing the best of equipment. I wished him the best as he headed for Canada.by coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Great report. That is why Jobe hikes now rather than bikes, it takes legs to get back up the Bradford trail. There is currently only one easy hike, that is from Bowen and it is a cold crossing. The 173 and PCT crossing is 6.7 miles and you still have to cross at the dam. You could go to Splinter behind Cedar Glen.(Jobe and I may disagree where it originally is but currently the Forest Service calby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is a fascinating tale and does instruct as Jobe has surmised. Keep your bullets for invaders, keep your money for emergencies and never bother the guy in the next pool with his drugs, he may have both money and bullets.by coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That was a very kind act to leave a raft. It was used on the day I was there but it disappeared according to a report I received a week later. Others have left rafts and floats but the very nature of this wild place makes it difficult to maintain them. Last Thursday when I was there, there was only a single float and that meant getting wet. But the good news is you can cross. Especially if you arby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Arrived the evening of April 7. Bowan Ranch Road has been graded and even chained so it is in excellent condition. Most of the major bumps are smoothed. Be aware of the ditch on the last part of the road as you get close to Bowen Ranch. I hiked in about 6:30 pm to visit the area and hike out. At dark about 8 couples were in the Womb and appeared to be staying over. I camped at Bowen and observedby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was at DP on Thursday and by the time I went out at noon I had not seen these two. There was a couple from Jersey early and a few locals but when I was headed out about 3 groups of 3 or 4 who were headed in. The creek is down from a couple of weeks previous but the creek is still around the lower 40's. Not hard for those accustomed to it but most will find it a real barrier. Interesting tale of shocking effects. I've not thought about lightening at the spring. I've been there in snow, sleet, hail, flood and heat, but realizing that one shouldn't remain in the pool with close strikes arriving is really great insight. Thanks for sharing your mistake. BTW, remaining in the pool when the snow starts is fine, but you need to consider if you can get to your car and drive aby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have found if you arrive at dawn on almost any day of the week you will usually have a pool to yourself. The campers are usually not up yet and those who are coming in for the day have not yet arrived. The most traffic comes in after 1000am. If you are planning on staying for the day then just become acquainted with those around because on many nice days regardless of the day of the week it wiby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And the float is a Sevlor so someone will surely think its valuable elsewhere. Sounds like the creek level hasn't changed since Thursday. There seems to be a continuing sift of the sands in the area about 25-50 down from the usual crossing. I found some redepositing there and it seemed somewhat shallower even thought the creek was higher than the previous week.by coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Another Great Day at the Springs No changes from my 8 March report except The weather has warmed up and at 1 pm when I was leaving there were about 20 people at the springs. The creek level was above the Serenity Pool and flowing faster than last week. There is a rope and a raft which has been rigged to allow you to pull yourself across. Works very nicely. Hiked in from Bowen Ranch hitting the trail about 8am. Only one other truck parked there. I looked over the road coming in taking interest in the discussion about the conditions. My Hyundai had no trouble with any of the areas. After the cattle crossing there are quite a few ruts coming up the hill but most cars have created a lane which keeps your tires from being thrown around in all the high cby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The road was in acceptable condition. My Hyundai Elantra had no trouble with it but then I abuse it. There are ruts but the muddy area is not slick. There are still 2 places with water flowing across and one has cut a channel so its wise to slow down. I'm more concerned about how the water crossing above the village may undermine the asphalt and make that area a problem later. Went down to the springs on Wednesday coming down from Bowen. I arrived at about 7:30 and found a couple of guys who had been dropped off by their family and they were debating how to cross the creek. The creek is above the Serenity Pool and is a fairly strong flow toward the far side. The sand bar which was there last month has disappeared except against the spring's side. Wizard, I found the same link and for me the issue is the phrase "crossing." There is a bridge now, but back when they started this T-6 crossing restriction it just as easily was a ford where they crossed. Sorry, Jobe. All the indications are as Wizard has asserted that the crossing is a reference to Deep Creek and this is the only one that fits the bill.by coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I concur that weekdays are the time to go. I only go there at dawn and stay for a short while. I usually have the place to myself except for campers who aren't up yet. Bowen is safe. I've been at the Bradford parking and I've heard of no problems. I also parked at the trail below Bowen when I drove my 4 wheel. I've had no issues there but it is a rough road. Splinters Cabin is actually a pavallion now about a 1/4 mile from the 90 foot steel bridge the PCT uses to cross Deep Creek before it heads to the Holcomb Valley. I've hike this area a couple of times last month. You reach it by taking Hook Road (by the Jensen Market in Cedar Glen) from 173 and driving to the end where it has become a very rough dirt road. This is why we have jails. To put those who are not mature enough to see that freedom has limits. Motorcycles destroy the watershed in the area. They are limited to access for a practical purpose. There are thousands of miles of trails all over the 3 million acres of the BLM and through out the other parts of the forest. Some would simply say because it is wrong we will go there. I did have to wait last summer in the Bacon Flats area while a guy on a bike came around a divide. I quietly let hm know he was on the PCT and was in violation of the laws. As a member of the Pacific Trail Association, I am often in the back country of the San Bernardino Mountains. I think bikes have a great place in recreation, but they need to be limited to places which are not fragile. The PCT itself is often made up of a narrow 12 inch trail with a sandy shoulder. It washes out often and becomes difficult to navigate. Bikes are not allowed on the trail at this tby coyote - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I agree with Murray. I have seen several times when those coming clothed decided to disrobe. It really is a case of following the leaders. It's my experience that its not just the campers, but those who come thinking it's a big party place rather than an experience with the wilderness. Many of them are unprepared if an emergency were to occur. I met one guy who had hiked in from the spillway at 2 am with a full moon expecting to find naked mermaids or somethings. The group camping over were mixed and mostly textile free around the pools. The group which arrived a little later reminded me of sixties rally. Friday I went to the Springs at 6:00 am reaching them as dawn was breaking. I have done this in the winter many dozens of times and only one other time years ago had I found a gang hazing new members. Just a brief update. I was down on Wednesday and found it very clean and well cared for. The creek was about 5 feet deep and running faster than usual. It was above the small pool below the Womb and running into it. It was also flowing over the Arizona pool. I found myself alone until about 1100 when about 8 or 9 hikers came in as groups of 2 and 3.
