When you refered to the bridge, did you mean the walking bridge for the Pacific Crest Trail, or the cement road bridge?by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
If you look at a satellite image type map you will see a road continues past the airfield. It looks like it stops in the high ground right above Deep Creek. I hope to hike the PCT from Hooks Creek Rd in Arrowhead down to Deep Creek (only about 15 mi.or so...) the next time we are visiting relatives. BTW, we're from Connecticut. I thought Splinter's ranch was turned into the Lake Arrowhead Regional Airport recently. Wasn't there an airshow there to celebrate the opening?by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Two drunks decide to go hunting one winter. They came across some tracks in the snow, and while they were trying to determine if they were bear tracks or deer tracks.....they got hit by a train.by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks, everyone, for the great responses. Because of all the input I've pretty much put together a plan. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? Now all I have to do is get there! I will post when I am ready to go, and perhaps get to meet some of you. E you later...by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Steamboat, the PCT is actually a pretty easy walk heading down from the bridge. On the west side, the side the picture was taken from, the trail rises slightly and then levels off about half way up the side of the gorge. As you walk toward the hot springs you stay at almost the same elevation but the creek keeps getting farther below you, hundreds of feet, in fact. At least the 7 miles or so I hiby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Steamboat, take a look at http://www.rimoftheworld.net/. Go to the GALLERY tab. The bottom link is 2005 WILDLIFE AND WILDLANDS. Scroll down to Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005. The picture on the left of the Deep Creek bridge by Dave Honeywell is the crossing where the PCT comes down fron Big Bear. There's an identical bridge near the hot springs, isn't there? I was standing under that bridge in Septemberby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, I have been following the posts here since the end of last summer, but I have not e-mailed anyone personally. Wouldn't that be a hoot to run into someone on the PCT that I know from CT! Small world....by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Steamboat, by using the trail which comes down from the Lake Arrowhead back road, do you mean Hook Creek Rd and follow the PCT? I started down that way last fall. The gate was closed, so it was an extra long hike in. Plus I was not prepared properly, so decided to wait 'til spring of '05. I'm from Connecticut, by the way, and visit my wife's daughter in Lake Arrowhead a few times a year. Us New Eby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
