I have some awesome pictures I took from various spots along the dirt section of 173 when we were visiting my wife's daughter, her husband and kids a few years back. They live near the populated end of Grass Valley road, which runs into 173 just up from the start of the dirt, or should I say "natural" section. I really don't know how to upload the pictures for you to see. What I couldby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm just saying, don't report him based on thinking he is illegally carrying a weapon on BLM land, report him for illegally pointing a firearm at someone.by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard, firearms are now legal on any land overseen by the Department of the Interior, subject to applicable state and local laws. That includes NPS, USFS, BLM and others. I just wanted to make sure that you were not wasting your time on something Mike Castro could win. Don't go after him for carrying a gun, go after him for his threatening and harassing actions. Carrying a gun is legal. Poiby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
http://www.rimoftheworld.net/ Check the latest news section, and especially the Alerts tab. This is uphill from Deep Creek and my guess is that a lot of water and mud is coming down Deep Creek now. Any of you regulars who go to check on things at the creek might want to bring along some basic rescue gear, to assist any nubies who aren't taking this seriously...by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

La, la, la, la, la, la... (I'm trying to blot out images of Jobe, nude, running downhill completely out of control, arms, legs and other body parts flailing in the breeze). Now THAT'S entertainment...!!! or your choice...by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I find Jobe's temperature reports in tenths of a degree to be humorous and entertaining, which I am pretty sure is his intention. Two thumbs up!!!by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I know what you're talking about, Rick. I got nervous just driving a rental van on 173 out of Arrowhead last year. I'd love to know how closely they monitor those things. Maybe they only check if you return it with a cactus plant stuck in the grill, or road rash on the roof...by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
These posts have been quite interesting, with valid viewpoints from all sides. Just curious, are there other hot springs nearby, or are the four pools mentioned the only ones? I have only hiked Deep Creek from the Hooks Creek area, and have not yet visited the hot springs. I will also understand if no one wants to answer, in an effort to keep other areas private or less visited...by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

CRAP!by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
http://www.swt.usace.army.mil/Presskit/PAM.cfm The information about the temperature sounds like good news/bad news. Swimming in the creek is O.K., but the pools, with their higher temps, are not? And would they be considered "stagnant", or is the water moving? Just don't go snorting the creek...!!!by Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, my sincerest apologies for questioning your judgement. I do no U, and I should have known, in spite of your desire to bring down the wrath of the authorities on these outlaws, that you would do what was good and right for yourself and your friends. My wife is heading out to Arrowhead in May, to visit her daughter and grandkids, while I get left behind to watch the dogs and the Inn (www.ctrivervalleyinn.com). I have got to get out to visit you guys, so we can make the hike from Hooks Creek. Don't take my joshing seriously, you are one of my favorite people... This sounds like Arlo Guthrie and Alice's Restaurant! "Yes, officer Obie, I placed that letter under that pile of garbage...". All kidding aside, it's hard to understand how people can trash a place they, or their family, are likely to go. How about the broken glass at the springs. From the looks of the shoreline it appears that the water level is really low on Lake Mead. Last time I was there a few years ago the waterlevel had dropped 30+ feet, leaving lots of interesting formations exposed, and boat launches leaving your boat a few hundred feet short of the water. What I was refering to using Google Maps is what appears to be an airplane exposed due to low water. Eitheby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, I know this is slightly off-topic, but you obviously enjoy mapping programs, as do I. Go to http://maps.google.com, input 36.18216N, 114.033982W, zoom in, and tell me what you see. I'm not sure if Google Earth shows the same thing. Looks like somethig fun to go investigate. P.S., you're the only one to get the Batman connection. Prior to the building of the cement bridge at the T6 crossing everyone fording Deep Creek got a nice undercarriage washing of their 4wd vehicle, oil, grease, gasoline, anti-freeze, dead animals...etc. My son-in-law sank his Jeep CJ up to the steering wheel there several years back. The Forrestry Service had the bridge constructed to prevent pollution. Whether this had any effect on the Arroyoby Mr_Wayne - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
