Quotepaulespo Hey Atranik, How was the crowd? How many people camping? Garbage level? Thanks! Crowd was chill. Only 25 people probably there total for the whole day. It was a Thursday. Garbage level was quite low, except for that part on the other side of the springs, where that rope swing is, back there there’s a shitload of fucked up camping gear that’s trash.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
So, I went yesterday. And I couldn't figure out where the entrance was to the "new" (technically old) parking area. So I ended up just going through the usual, mike's old shack and he told me about the new parking area and it was maybe a 5-10-minute walk longer than usual.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah, thanks Wizard! That's cool. I have done the Bradford Ridge trail a handful of times but it always takes a solid 2-2.5 hours on the hike back, so it's not ideal for a day-trip. Any idea how long the hike is from the new-parking campground? It says a 1.75mi hike... that sounds like it's almost double a hike from the original bowen parking.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I haven't been to Deep Creek for a year sadly. I read somewhere (can't remember where now) that someone bought the land next to Bowen Ranch and is available for parking and camping. I would like to arrive super-early, like at 7-8am and spend the whole day at the springs and head out to be back at the car by sundown. I typically park at Bowen Ranch and despite his rants and weird behavior, it hasby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow that sounds like such an amazing time. I've always wanted to be at the springs while it's raining. Also, you did the bradford ridge trail running in less than an hour!? Wow... the way back always takes me 2.5 hours with that trail. Thank you for picking up trash and removing wax and graffiti! It bums me out so hard when I see the place trashed. Also, thanks for cleaning the pools. You areby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteWizard DCHS with no slackline, just like the old days, and we had a lot of fun back then When when the Zombie Apocalypse is over, there will be less people at the springs But... I like the slackline. heh How's the river level these days? I haven't been since last fall... and the absurdly low amount of rainfall makes me think it's super low still, which is somewhat weird... I wonder hoby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi there... is the slackline completely gone at deep creek? Also, what's the ambiance like these days? I read some people said that 100 people were there last time. 100?!?!?! God damn. What is the best time to go when there would be the least amount of people? Coachella is this weekend... do you think that would make for less people or more? Yikes, I'm almost afraid of finding out.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteMINERALKING As wack as Mike Castro (land owner) may seem to be at times, there's always two sides to every story... Ones that warrant shotguns?by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
My friend linked this review to me.. QuoteWe come to a gated road where a man with a shotgun steps out and begins his schpeal by now listen here kids and goes on for 25 minuets about uselessness of his life. When you try to say okay sir we must be on our way he just bounced the price to be 10 dollars each since he now is offended that I don’t seem to care past the literal 25 minute mark aboby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I haven't been for about 3 months and the last time I went the line had snapped in two spots and people had retied it together by literally just making knots in two spots and retightening it with the ratchet like that. I have extra webbing specifically for the purpose of replacing the line at deep-creek but haven't been able to get out there. I have some friends that will go potentially this weekby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
>. I heard from some later, that he was an older man, hiking out in the heat of the day without any water - and collapsed where they found him. He almost won the Darwin awardby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah yea, 4th of July sounds like it could be busy and the trash situation may be bad. I wanna go there later this week and put signs up differentiating the bradley ridge trail and PCT for those who use the bradley ridge path because the way back is not always so clear. I think I need a couple wooden posts with a sharpie marker and maybe a hammer to hammer the post in the ground.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I notice that when people go with friends, or a big group of friends especially, they may feel self-conscious about undressing in front of them. If people are single or just a couple, they probably don't give as many fucks. I find the nudity varies a lot depending on the people there. Personally, I find myself being more comfortable being completely nude on the second day if I camp overnight as Iby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That's a pretty good idea! There's always people coming through the bowen ranch anyway.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Has anybody tested the water that comes out from that metal spout that someone stuck into the rock above the crab cooker? Is it drinkable? I'm curious if there's another, cleaner source, literally above the springs as well. Anyway, I'm just curious to know what's the mineral content like of the water and if some people drink it readily or not. I have heard mixed opinions. Some say don't drinkby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quoteneogeo What an awesome post. I did my first Saturday visit to the springs in a long time yesterday. In part to meet a group of young hikers who announced a plan to clean up the springs. The hiker who organized the clean up has only been coming to Deep Creek for the last four months, but he saw the trash problem and decided to do something about it. By the time I arrived at the springs aroundby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuotePaul P. Dave, I have lived in San Diego for years and have been going to Deep Creek for about 40 years. A very long day trip is possible from San Diego, but I definitely would not recommend it. With all the SoCal population growth and traffic, inevitably there will be very bad traffic no matter what time you start the trip. And basically your soaking time will be very limited. What our fby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quoteneogeo Well supposedly Saturday 4/15 coming up is a big naturist group day at the springs - and a group of younger people are organizing a trash pick up day that day too. Bring trash bags, leave your clothes in the car ... Trash pick up day makes me happy.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteLBNguyen Hum, Liked Arizona pool the most, so guess not worth going for another month I guess. IIRC, contemplation pool is the one facing the beach under the trees. From BRT, it should be first pool you see. From the the Bowen Ranch, you have to climb rock over Crab cooker. In Novemember, that Pool was not warm at all. Ah I see, the contemplation pool is that lone pool near the riveby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteWould you have pictures of the 2nd split for the less Steep path? Unfortunately I do not. QuoteIn my story a while back where my friends got traumatized by steep path going down so we decided to take less steep going up. Ended up going on PCT since we reached the rainbow bridge. Kinda stupid on my friends part for trying to take an unfamiliar path back, but we were looking for a splitby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was hiking yesterday to the springs using the bradford trail and about halfway in my friends and I stopped under a small shaded area just enough for the few of us to drink some water for a minute and then my friend pointed out that there was a small wooden sign attached to a tree branch that read: "The only acre spared in the 1999 fire." It was very interesting because we wouldn't haby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
In regards to the directions here: http://www.deepcreekvolunteers.com/directions.htm#Alternate_Route It says: QuoteThe Bradford Ridge Trail (Two and a half miles long ) is a great option for people wishing to access Deep Creek Hot Springs who live in the Inland Empire and LA areas. From off of the 210 FWY, just east of HWY 15, you take HWY 18 up into the mountains, then take HWY 189 throughby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I know that we could see the height of the river here: http://www.water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=sgx&gage=dkhc1 Just wondering if there's a temperature gauge somewhere that logs that as well!by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I did the bradford ridge trail last week which was supposedly 3 miles long each way. Someone at the springs said it's 2 miles longer than bowen ranch. I don't remember goat trail from bowen ranch being that short (only 1 mile)... is it? It would be neat to have a link to a site that shows the exact length with elevation changes too. Btw the hike in from the bradford ridge trail took 1.5 hoursby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The springs are super chill dude. You don't have to talk to anyone if you don't want to. Most people don't really care. You're chiling in some pools. Close your eyes and zen out if you want. Or just smile and start talking to your fellow neighbors. There are so many pools anyway. Btw I went on Saturday. There were a lot of people, but not as many as there usually are on summer nights... and yes mby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Gauge location data showing 2.7' on Feb 12, 2017. And this is how the river looked on that same day. My friends went and said you basically need to cross the river with all your bags above your head. The slackline easily goes underwater once you get closer to the middle of it. They said it was really cold to fall into the river but quite refreshing at the same time after being in the sprinby Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I never been to DCHS in the winter time, let alone after the strongest storms we've had in years. Is the river crossable during this time? I'm thinking of going up there on Sunday. Hopefully the pools are not underwater and warm? Also, is it absolutely freezing like crazy there overnight? I would imagine so.by Antranik - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
