It was a great experience helping the USFS pick up the trash. I was talking to one of the supervisors who mentioned that this was the last week for the seasonal fire crews and they wanted to utilize the man power. He also mentioned that they would like to make a greater effort in policing the area and trying to keep the springs natural and pristine, in spite of their budget problems. Trip report 11-13---------I would have to say that this was one of the best days I have had at the “springs” in a long time. Made my way down the Freedom trail to a relatively empty and serene hot springs. I haven’t been to the springs for a long time and my trip today reminded me of how much I miss this place. 10 bucks, a tent, sleeping bag and a coleman stove on Bowen ranch is pretty cheap and its really close to the springs for those late night soaks.by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Sam, first of all I want to thank you for sharing your beer. I have made it a point to always have extra cold beer to share when I am at the springs. Early on I paid forward my beer to Dave and Trish and later on you come up and offer me Stella - what goes around, comes around. On the trash thing I was able to fill my ice box up with various trash and tons cig. butts on the way out. Theby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Quotewindsailor This weekend (9/1/2012) is going to be another hot one; I may head to Blacks instead. correction 9/15/2012by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was there last Friday, 9/7/2012. The last minute I called in sick and decided to de-stess. I got a late start and arrived at the springs at 10:30. Free hiked all the way down and passed a couple along the way- she was top free. I had the entire DCHS to myself and decided to take advantage of a 30 minute soak in the womb until the couple I passed arrived. Blacks beach; one of the best nude beaches in California, near San Diego. Perhaps one of the best in the Country. On the East Coast Florida has its Haulover Beach and on the West Coast California has its Blacks.by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was at Blacks, probably further down the beach. I missed the dancing headphone guy in the water. I noticed this Japanese family strolling along the beach (possibly tourists) all dress up and stuff; probably thinking, “oh my gosh” I left at about 1 PM. What a contrast between DCHS. Both have their plusses and minuses. Although there were quite a few textiles strolling along the beach,by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I left Deep Creek hot Springs at 1 PM. The hike out was exceedingly hot and difficult - a hike I would not do if I didn't love this place. I finished the 2 liters in my camel pack on the hike to the Freedom Trail Head. Fortunately I had another gallon in the truck. In addition it is important to keep up ones electrolites as well. I have seen plenty of dumb-asses coming down to the springs getby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
On my drive in on the Bowen Ranch road it seemed rougher than usual; a lot more wash board. Perhaps it was the suspension on my 4x4. The freedom trail road is rougher than I remember. On my way out I noticed a sedan parked at the trail head so it is passable by auto; but I wouldn’t do it. I arrived at the Freedom Trailhead at about 10:00 AM and there was only one vehicle at the trail head.by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes sir, the United States Forest Services is under the Dept of Agriculture. I used to be employeed by the USFS and fought many a forest fires in the Angeles National Forest a on tanker crew, and yes my checks came from the Dept of Agriculture. Most likely because the cutting of timber is a sustainable crop to be harvested. However my major concern is the number of campers flocking to the Spby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotehiker I can’t tell how many may have been camping, but I would guess 25 or more (not counting those who may have been even further up canyon). There were lots of empties around as well. Ya Paul, not only is it illegal but there is a reason why the Forest Services does not want overnighters. Hey Hiker, It was good seeing you and some of the regulars since I haven’t been to the springs in a long time. Hiker, Cigar Ron (a long time visitor), Navy Guy Richard and I had some good conversation. I also met a really nice young couple from Arrowhead who hiked in via Bradford Ridge. I missed Wizard as I started hiking out around 1:30. On my way out I passed resident Dave on his way in.by windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good report Jtlguy; sounds like you had a fantastic day at the springs. They are awesome and whenever I am down there I don’t want to leave. I have been coming several years and have had no problems getting there in my Toyota and also I've never any problems with Mike and he’s always treated me well, however, other people report serious problems with him. I believe I’m with david m and neogeo on this one. Sure, DCHS is a public place and it’s designation as “clothing optional” means just that – clothing is an option. However, over the years the uniqueness of the clothing optional/nude tradition of DCHS has seemingly been over shadowed by an increasing amount of clothed and wet suited individuals, especially on the weekends. Hey Wizard, last year I may have seen those very two Golden Eagles soaring above, half way down the Bowen Ranch trail. I sure it was the same pair becasuse their range is about 75 sq. miles and Golden Eagles typically mate for life. It's a beautiful sight to see these pair soar. I really enjoy seeing all the wild life in the area. Not too long ago I spotted Mule deer on the slope just east ofby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Jtlguy As for the Bowen Ranch road you will have no problem in your AWD vehicle. Sometimes I drive to the ranch in my Toyota Camry and it does fine. Once you get to the ranch, the camping fee in $10.00 per person and it is fairly primitive. I’ve never camped but I have observed some of camping areas with picnic tables and fire rings. As for fire you best ask Mike. I don’t know whaby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I arrived at the Springs at about 11 AM. The Bonwen Ranch road is in OK shape; not too bad. At the top were patches of icy unmelted snow but as I descended on the trail those patches of snow disappearded. I met a group of about 6 guys hiking out who indicated that it was fairly mellow at the Springs. The creek is quite low, about to my knees. However, the water was frigid and by the time I maby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Lower "T" is another name of the lower parking lot where the Bowen trail intersects the road and the trail continues on down to the Springs. The hill down to the lower T is a fun hill to go up and down. I have been able to make it in my 4x4 F250 Crew with no problem but I would be too chicken to try it in a regular vehicle without a low-range gear. Hey, I clicked on that link. Great Pic of DCHS. It looks like a still of an independent movie that I believe was filmed at Deep Creek. It's called Act Naturally. Hey Neogeo, that is a really good trip report. It sounds like it was a beautiful day at the Springs. This is why I like the week days - I usually choose Fridays for my sojourns to DCHS. I almost came down on Friday but was unable to get away from work – I would have been one more “nude” to add to the stats. That is one rough-ass road you were on. I have been on that one several times in my 4x4. It practically knocked the nuts off my truck. It is best to follow Rudedog’s advice - drive all the way in to Bowen Ranch and then take the gate just to the right of the Bowen Ranch entrance. Then bear left at all the forks. It will take you first to the Freedom trail parking lot. The only hitch, the cby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Count me in. I understand why some people prefer to ware "wet suits" but really, at a clothing optional venue? I have discovered that if there is a large contengent of nude people, others who would like to try it but are hesitant, will be more open to experimenting with nudity. If by happen chance I find a free Saturday or Sunday I will definitely join the sans suit crowd - and helpby windsailor - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
