LOL, Viejo Bill! Skip meant another guy named Wizard ... his real name is Walt. I thought the same thing until I read further and realized who they described. I think the article describes our fascination quite well.by DCR - U.S.A. Hot Springs
Oops ... I was hurrying to post this before the page refreshed and I loose everything I've typed! I meant my co-workers DON'T undertand my interests. Does anyone else have a problem with the page refreshing and wiping out what they've typed?by DCR - U.S.A. Hot Springs
I really enjoyed this article ... it's the best hot springs article I've ever read. I must be a rookie though cause I've never heard of the terms "beach ball" and "to qualify a soak". I also liked the explanation about people in suits getting more stares. Maybe I'll share this article with my co-workers ... they understand my interest in hot springs and naturism. This artiby DCR - U.S.A. Hot Springs
Augu Caliente is open all year, but the bar and restaurant are open only during April through August. Also, my book says the motel rooms with bar and restaurant service operate during spring and summer months only. There is another fantastic sounding (we have always wanted to make the trip but haven't had the chance yet) hot spring called Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs. It is Southwest of Mexicaby DCR - U.S.A. Rick, are you saying you were there for President's Day Weekend a couple of year's ago? I didn't think I'd ever met you but maybe we have crossed paths.by DCR - California Hot Springs
Hi Sam, 1. We made the off-pavement part of our trip in about an hour and a half. But in a sedan and allowing for the road to develope "problems" I would allow two and a half hours. 2. You can go to http://www.nps.gov/deva/Morning.pdf. The report is updated just about every day. This lists the weather forecast (except Death Valley is a really diverse area so I'm not sure whatby DCR - California Hot Springs
Saline Valley Road is in great shape, except for a stretch (maybe 100 yards long) of soft sand and another bumpy "small boulder field". The only real problem a car would have is on the spur road. There are some pretty deep wash-outs in the first section. I personally wouldn't want to take my car through there. But we did see some cars out there this past weekend. Somehow they did mby DCR - California Hot Springs
I was wondering if anyone is interested in a trip to Saline Valley hot springs? I think several folks expressed interest a while back. We just made a quick trip out there for the MLK holiday weekend ... the crowds were minimal and the weather was great, plus the road was freshly graded - a real plus. I don't know if any of you knew Walt the Wizard but apparently he passed away last year. We wby DCR - California Hot Springs
Sam, sorry to hear of your disappointing experience when you visited Big Caliente. I wonder if Little Caliente would have been better? Most people don't seem willing to make the trip over the rougher/steeper road. In my opinion, the road to Big Caliente is practically a "freeway" compared to the road to Little Caliente. Those drunks could have been headed to one of the campgrounds wby DCR - California Hot Springs
Did you know that Juncal Campground was closed/removed for ecological reasons? I guess some rare thing was in that area so they took out the campground. That was one of the "landmarks" given for directions in the hot springs book.by DCR - California Hot Springs
The good news here is the news turned out to be a hoax! So happy soakin'! Anybody want to plan a group trip? LOL I received this e-mail from SPA: Last week I emailed our member list and informed everyone that the National Park Service in Death Valley had rescinded the clothing optional policy at the Saline Valley warm springs. Signs announcing this new policy were posted and seen by severalby DCR - California Hot Springs
I think WE naturists should be offended by those that choose to wear clothing!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Although Forest Service regulations do not prohibit nudity, if someone complains about your nudity you are required to cover up ... no argument allowed. <Bummer> I have almost always visited on the weekends and have never encountered such a non-tolerant crowd to clothing optional use like the one described. Sometimes we've felt out-numbered and a little uncomfortable. You have my sympatby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Rick, Timeouts are up to you. You could consider making it so you have to approve certain posters' messages. That way you could be certain that those type of posts don't make it through if the poster has proven themselves to be unreliable. At a minimum, if we all ignore his inflamatory attacks he will not have anyone to talk to and attack.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Just wanted to wish our very own Wizard happy birthday! Hope you find a way to use your birthday suit today! Happy soakin'by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We hiked down to check it out on Sunday. The water was way to deep and swift. But there were two guys that swam across. I was just happy to visit the area and see the changes. It seems sad to see all the damage done but there is a lot of new life taking shape. The most dramatic change is the huge wall of sand on the shore above the Az Pool It must be at least 20 feet deep! I would say you should expect privacy (about not being photographed without your permission) ... but whether you get that is another thing altogether. Sometimes the people (I use that term loosely) that visit DCHS are not the best characters. A lot of them are really friendly and respectful but others don't really care about your rights and have very few morals. Personally, I don't really carby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wiz, Enjoyed your pictures and sorry to hear about Tukka. He was a wonderful dog and we will certainly miss seeing him. Bear looks like a great dog. Those pound puppies are some of the best! We hope to make a trip down to DC one of these weekends ... when ever we can fit it into our schedule and the weather cooperates.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Bravo, Mike!! Very well stated.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It is true that the two signs stating the area is clothing optional use have been removed. There use to be one at each end of the area. One was at the Lower Springs where you arrived and one was at the Palm Springs if you arrived from Steele Pass.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Mike, last time I was there (Presidents Day Weekend) the landing strip was still being used. I haven't heard any rumors about closing it. It's probably just a rumor.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Gary, that's great news! I will have to start taking my camera with me so I can get some pictures!by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Speaking of Saline ... we will be planning a short trip out there soon if anyone wants to tag along. There shouldn't be too many people out there this time of year.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wiz, the only thing I have really heard about Saline Valley Warm Springs was that rumor I posted on this forum a while back. Thank goodness that turned out not to be true! I do know that the SPA (Saline Preservation Association) has a working relationship with the National Park and they wouldn't (or so I believe) change something without coordinating it with SPA first. I have something really cool to share with you guys. We went to Remington Hot Spring yesterday and saw a bald eagle soaring over the mountain! Really cool. I am told it has been spotted there a few times. From what I understand, they live in pairs so there's probably another one :0)by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi there Joel, I was enjoying your commentaries/photos on hot springs when I came across dcbr03008.jpg. You state there was trash thrown into one of the hot springs. I would like to correct that, what you actually observed were people heating their cans of food in the Crab Cooker pool. The DCV group works very hard to help keep the hot springs clean and to educate the other visitors. Could yby DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Arizona Mike, Thanks for the candid report on where Mr Castro stands on this situation. Once again, you have proven to be an asset to the group/hot springs. I agree with you, there are some very alarming statements made by Mr Castro.by DCR - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
