The most important part of this was to keep the wild burros away from the pools and that nudity is still acceptable.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs

AZ Mike, aka "Short Shit"by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuotejobeWhen I left the area I almost had a head on crash with Mike Castro as he and I crested a very steep hill. He looked me in the eye and waved. As soon as he saw it was me he looked away at his seat. I wandered what he was looking for ??? Answer: Multiple Choice- pick one: He was looking for: -- his cell phone -- his whiskey bottle -- his gunby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Geez...just what Deep Creek needs is more publicity (not!). I have been to all the hot springs they listed except the Alaska one. The article is misleading because many of the springs listed, especially the commercial ones, require bathing suits. Also, I could be wrong, but I believe Rocky Canyon Hot Springs in Idaho was dismantled or destroyed by the Forest Service shortly after we soaked thereby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
This is why I have been saying for years that there needs to be A joint effort between the Forest Service, the BLM, and a solid committed volunteer group to work on all the issues related to the springs. Access is one of the biggest issues. What happens if and when Mike closes off access through Bowen Ranch? Will the BLM improve the road to the Freedom Trailhead? If not, will more people get stucby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I agree-terrible. I can only hope this assholes will be caught, although I realize that can be difficult to do.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thats good news and may help save a life for someone affected by Nagleria Fowleri.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It goes without saying never leave ANYTHING valuable or important in your vehicle if you park at the Freedom Trailhead. Be sure to take your car registration and car insurance papers with you when you hike to the springs. A friend of mine had his registration stolen and he had to work through the identity theft for almost two years!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes fall and winter are much better times to go to Ringbolt. THe summer closure is relatively new and was implemented because so many hikers going down to Ringbolt or Goldstrike suffered from heat exhaustion and had to be rescued.by Paul P. - U.S.A. Hot Springs

naphi, there will be less people if you do not go on Memorial Day weekend. Go early during a regular weekday, preferably Tues-Thurs, and you should be fine.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Yes the signs will help,as least for those who can read English. The sign should also be in Spanish. All politics aside, we have a large Hispanic population and many of them cannot read English. Whenever we have pollution warning signs go up in Mission Bay here, inevitably Hispanic kids ignore the signs and still swim in polluted waters.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
I’m glad they put up the signs. So many people do not have a clue about the dangers of naegleria fowleri.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Ive been there quite a few times. People do camp by the river, but I wouldn't recommend it. One time I was hiking along the river across from there at Goldstrike Canyon. Water level was low when I started, but Hoover Dam does release water often, and I actually had to swim back to my starting point, so it may be better to camp away from the river, although I'm not sure about the rules and restricby Paul P. - U.S.A. Quoteneogeo , I assume they will be going to Freedom. Eventually there will be problems. Yes, as I mentioned people will ask Mike for help. Never a good idea. On the other hand, tow truck drivers in Hesperia will love it when all the 2wd vehicles get stuck.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

You would probably be better off taking the Mutau Flat trail. It will take you right to Sespe and no river crossings.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
paulespo, a good history of Dirty Socks is here. I've soaked there often throughout the years. Not the best quality soak, but still an interesting stop when traversing the area. http://explorehistoricalif.com/ehc_legacy/may2013.htmlby Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Quotejuliankaye My first thought on the new rules at the ranch entrance are that they are all good. The extra 5 bucks sort of sucks, but it may keep some of the idiots out. The increased fee is a double edged sword. It may keep some people out, but it also may force folks to go to the Freedom Trailhead. Some newbies could get lost or stuck. If they get stuck, they may try to go get help from Miby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
During a couple of wet springs when the creek was high, I rigged up a rope across the creek and had a pulley on it so people could attach their stuff and send it across the rope. Worked well, but inevitably someone would steal it, so I stopped doing it. I know others have also put up a rope over the creek in other years. In lieu of that, putting your stuff in a garbage bag and carrying it on or oby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

As Wizard mentioned, the Victor Valley Museum has more history and some pictures of the aqueduct. Water was brought in from Deep Creek in the via a seven-mile, 14-inch steel pipe which ended in a reservoir. Known as the Hesperia Ditch this small aqueduct brought water from the tiny Lake Adelaide several miles up Deep Creek to an open reservoir seven miles away in what is now Lime Street Park.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Joel also you may want to check out Holtville Highline hot springs at the corner of I-8 an Van Der Linden Road. And it’s always worth a stop at Niland to look at Salvation Mountain.Theres also a hot spring there but it’s not recommended for soaking.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Hey Joel, I'm essentially a 5 Palms local. I live in San Diego, but go to 5 Palms often. You have absolutely nothing to worry about regarding the cartel, kidnappings, crimes etc. None of that happens near 5 Palms. Its family friendly so you should have no problem. Be aware that its clothing optional, so I don't know how conservative you and your wife are, but you may see naked people LOL! This tiby Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Naphi, as Wizard said ,Monday will be clear. However it will be very cold. The daytime high will only be in the upper 40s and the low around freezing. So if you go early Monday, just be careful on Bowen Road as there may be patches of ice.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We all know that the rise of extremist groups and neo Nazis is more prevalent now, and there is a well known presence of these types of groups, including the White Aryan Resistance, in Hesperia and Apple Valley. Obviously someone from one of the extremist groups is responsible for the swastika and other racist graffiti.
