Someone also told me a similar story but that he was found in the crab cooker instead of the womb, haven’t seen any news stories yet maybe won’t be published til Monday?by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks jobe! Another question on the creek level readings. I went on feb 22 when levels were abt 2.3ft at the guage which I know is quite some ways downstream. My estimate is that when that level goes above 2ft the Arizona pool is likely underwater. Anybody else have a good guess on this?by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/10260500/?agency_cd=USGS#parameterCode=00060&period=P7D Creek went up on the 21 when there wasnt any precip, then it dropped yesterday. Is there some kind of dam upstream that they release water from? I thought the only thing on dc was the mojave river forks dam all the way downstream. Arizona pool was underwater yesterday with water almostby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I went in on 1-6-23 and the serenity and arizona pool were underwater, creek was too high for many to cross though some 5 people did swim it. I came in from the dam and had a little trouble staying dry crossing kinley creek! 5 people came down from bradford.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Lol there are almost always people high on psychedelics at deep creek. Much worse are the people who get extremely drunk, especially on alcohol coming from a glass bottle. I went this weekend and there were a lot of very large families(10+) which were fine but a whole family would overtake the pools and they were wearing shorts and tshirts in the springs. Go on a weekday if you can, when itsby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Been a while! Drove in through bradford, road was icy from Tuesday snow but totally doable. Icy patches in town were more sketchy than that final stretch of 173. No cars parked when we got there around 8:30am. Surprising amount of snow on the trail! Probably 3 inches holding on in some parts, so happy to see after a brutally dry January. As we got closer to the descent to deep creek, I thought thby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The last 3 miles of the road to bradford trail is not plowed and looks like 8 inches will fall in Twin Peaks today with a lot more coming on Weds/Thurs. Prob will have a chain control coming up the mountain or at the top at least. Better have a good vehicle to get across otherwise you could try hiking the PCT from the Mojave Forks Dam.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I went in through the "new" campground a couple weeks ago and can confirm that it is the same parking lot as before. They have improved it a bit with multiple picnic tables and patches of astroturf that I assume you are meant to set your tent up on. The road there is also smoother than the old road since they have some heavy duty earth movers. I believe they also have flush toilets andby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yea the description of the video actually does more than the video itself to imply that the people who run this 2 year old campsite have been involved in “preservation” of the springs for a long time. No mention of volunteers, Mike Castro or the property dispute that led to the creation of this campground, that there are other ways to access the springs, that the pct runs through them, and otby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Curious to see what you all think of this video. It features the owner and operator of deep creek campground. At one point the video maker presumes that these guys are cleaning up the springs tho I havent seen any evidence of that. https://youtu.be/dFCsasv_cdMby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Came in from bradford, no snow on the road but a little icy at points. Didn’t have to cross the creek but its quite low and probably only knee high at the shallow point. It is extremely cold though probably 45? Lots of people on a Tuesday, many who would just hike to the springs and turn around without soaking. Weird times! I went super early to avoid any daytime crowds.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
hi jobe! Was the graffiti on the rocks in the clearing by the contemplation pool covered up? Or just the graffiti on the bowen trail? I heard recently there is graffiti on the bradford ridge trail tooby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey I wanted to organize a graffiti clean up, but given covid situation organizing any kind of group event would be pretty sketchy. I'm probably going to go down myself and try to work on it. For me the closer the grafiti is to the pools, the worse so I will be focusing on the rocks near the contemplation pool. Will probably work my way back to the trail from there.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Atranik, How was the crowd? How many people camping? Garbage level? Thanks!by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Hi Jobe, For the helicopter rescue do you think the hikers were coming from bowen? I wonder how the new campground owners feel about being the point of rescue for future incidents. I recall seeing rescues where there were several ambulances and fire trucks parked at bowen even for one person and Mike always seemed to complain most about having to deal with the rescues. It seems like with the grby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Julian, Did you talk with Mike at Bowen ranch about why he's letting people park? I'm assuming the income and I'm sure he doesn't care about the health of people/the springs. According to the website the deep creek camping people have closed their lot since march due to corona. I was thinking if Mike had closed his entry in March and the usfs had gated the 173 on the arrowhead side thisby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A friend told me they counted 50 tents at deep creek over the weekend. This weekend is sure to be even more crowded with the holiday. Heard there is a lot of human feces all over the placeby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I came out of the north pass the sign was there. It wasn’t impassable when I came out but it may be after this weeks snow.by paulespo - California Hot Springs
I hit a bunch of hot springs last weekend and wanted to report on the status of them. I drove to Saline Valley Saturday morning. I saw a couple Jeeps pulled over due to car trouble. I found the drive to be grueling and slow but nothing too bad for my subaru forester, I aired down my tires to 20psi to avoid getting a flat. Went in through the South pass and arrive around noon, took 2 hours longerby paulespo - California Hot Springs
Interesting, so the discount at Bowen Ranch seems to be because of the additional(though seems like not that much) mileage you now have to hike. I wonder who that "old timer" she referred to is...by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The day we were there was still early and not a lot of snow had melted at big bear. We spent most of the day in the arizona pool and the creek wasn't too high. That following weekend tho it looked like the creek rose over the arizona pool and had washed out all the sand in it.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Actually seems they already knew most of what I had to tel them but I did get info on the name of the new owner, (from a separate source not the sbnf). His name is George R Carney, if lookup info is correct too he is 61 years old. I was also told he plans to commercialize the property by bringing back camping, and having parties at the lot.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just made a call to BLM and SBNF. BLM was very gruff and said “its private property so its not our business” SBNF was much nicer and more concerned about the possibility of increased traffic to the springs. Wondering if anybody has anymore or new info particularly the name of the new owner? Also if anyone has talked to them, any particulars on their plans of commercializing the springs acceby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Went through Bradford on Wednesday in the rain. Still snow on the trail but the 173 has mostly thawed from the rain. Theres a fallen tree blocking some of the road by the shooting range but easily passable. Two cars at the trailhead when we arrived. Got to the springs around 10am. Two tents, one belonging to a swiss fellow who came in from bradford and one to a group of skaters who hiked pct in fby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It has really cooled down since July. Looks like a high of 77 low of 43 for Sunday. Check the Apple Valley forecast, that's the best approximation. Usually less wind at deep creek. I saw on instagram that a massive outdoor group from ucsb camped at the springs over this past weekend. No idea if they were clean or not but I would anticipate it being more trash than usual. Just throwing my two cents into this. I definitely agree that possibly from the recent earthquake, the creek area is warmer and the combination of hot springs runoff, and the seeps that come up through the creek bottom are warming the creek to higher temperatures than usual. There were areas along the creek where the sand felt hot even though the creek water felt cool. Coupled with the low creekby paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Weird I did not see you Jobe. Did you shave the beard? Camping is no longer allowed at Bowen and the $20 is a penalty fee for people who do not leave before dark or who stay overnight. If you do it too many times(or maybe just once?) he wont let you in at all.by paulespo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A quick trip down to show some friends who were visiting from Canada. Went through Bowen this time, Mike was in the shack and was amiable but very thorough. Gave us a new map that had a lot of instructions, said there was a helicopter rescue the day before. The fencing and building outside his property look pretty near done, I wonder if/when he will hand over the access. A little late to post but I finally made it up to Mono Hot Springs, on June 18-21. We had a group of 10 and we stayed in the cabins with just beds and a bathroom, brought coolers for our food. Brought lots of food as we heard the food at the restaurant is meh and the convenience store is priced high bc of the remoteness. On our drive up it was 100 in the Fresno area, dropped to 84 by the time weby paulespo - California Hot Springs
