Hey mr jobe, i cashed in those tax chips after that nasty wreck I wuz in at 3:45 am on my way into work. Little did I know I was to become the 3am emergency case. Im getting quite familiar with the eastern Mojave. Have you been up Caruthers canyon? I highly reccomend it. It's just a little south of the Clark Mtns in the Mid Hills. The highway will be locked except for emergency use. There will be some dirtbikers, plinkers and hikers who will have to find a different trail.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
One would think the dirt road would remain open as a USFS route. Fire suppression in that area remains a critical issue. Should a wildfire threaten heavily populated areas such as Lake Arrowhead, how would USFS and Calfire crews access the area? Public access is also important unless extreme fire hazard dictates the need for closure.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I remember using it in the early 1970s. Can they close a route thats grandfathered in?by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Screw paying lawyers, the BLM would do much better collecting the fines from violators. Better enforcement is the only thing that will make a dent in the thick skulls of some.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

The Willow Fire spared some living native juniper in the Bowen Ranch vicinity. There is plenty of space to camp at the ranch too.The fee is about the same as the USFS or BLM charges so thats no big deal. The price of gas to get there is alot more! Last night I enjoyed the full moon at my place with some friends and we sat out by the campfire untill around 10pm.It was beautiful. Im feeling good enough to stay a couple of daze at my usual hacienda in the hills. It should be an enjoyable time to kick the cobwebs outta the old cabin and play the banjo in the sun. Since I aint working anytime soon, I might as well enjoy! I cant stand being down in town any longer. It's been a real trip being in a coma for the summer but what the hell, I might as well !by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yep. I got 86ed as a USFS government firefighter once. I guess it had something to do with my taste for beverages served in bar rooms! Once I gave that up, many problems disappeared. I'm not sure what Nelson's problem is but he sure didnt fit in well around Juniper Flats. Jeezus! A friggin motorcycle trail rammed through a protected ACEC native american sacred site. Good riddance Barry. And, usinby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

It's on the USFS San Bernardino National Forest map I believe. I do remember the old minor's cabins that used to dot the area of Arrastre canyon though. I did live up at the old "welcome ranch" back in the 70s. That property is now owned by Jerry and Mary and they have lived there for well over a decade now (maybe two! ). Hey, come to think of it, you've been around for quite awhile nowby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Originally, it was called whore springs after a working girl that had a cabin up that way. When the USFS published the map, they couldnt call it by its original name so they changed it to what it is today. The remains of the foundation is still visable if you know where to look. A couple of years back I took an archeologist up to the site and he found an intact perfume bottle, slightly blue glassby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A message to all here. This website does a great service to all Deep Creek Hot Spring users by giving us a forum to discuss Deep Creek conditions and trip reports. It troubles me greatly that it has recently reverted back into the mudslinging days of old. This kind of behavior does us no good and sheds a negative light on the whole area. Nevada is loaded with remote hot springs. Many are undeveloped. Some have been tapped as watering sources for cattle. One of the most interesting ones I visited was called Diana's punchbowl. It's located in the center of the Monitor Valley between the Toyabie and Monitor Ranges. Much too hot for soaking at 210 degrees, it sits on a travertine hill and the springs are located in a deep pool in theby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Limo Dave's car and trailer have been removed from the property where they were sitting recently. I'm not sure where it went. The K Rats will have to find a new home now! If anyone is in contact with him, please let him know. He can contact his friend who owns that property for more information.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteRick QuoteLaughingBearThe public has free access to the Deep Creek area via 3N59A or they can park on Mike's land for a small fee. The problem has been that those that opt for the free access appear to be vandalized in ways that suggest that Mike. I was a victim of this myself. Mr Wizard, you are free to park on my property anytime when you want to hike the area. The motorcycle thing is a seperate issue and is one that is still being reviewed by the court for a settlement soultion. The extensive damage in Arastra canyon, the ACEC and the the Deep Creek Non Motorized area are specific areas that the court is reviewing. We eventually won the ACEC issue but there is stillby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There are many paths into Deep Creek Hot Springs to choose from. While I am quite aware of the past, I choose to live in the present. The neighborhood is pretty mellow these days. I'm certainly not into opening up some old wounds. The solution is quite simple. The public has free access to the Deep Creek area via 3N59A or they can park on Mike's land for a small fee. I try to get along with everyby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ohhhhhh please please please dont start this again! According to a first hand account of the incident involving Gary Roe, both parties had been at odds for some time and they were both armed. It wound up being more or a wrestling match thank God. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept enforces the law. We call em, they come. Just ask Scott Parker if you ever see him again. Today was beautiful out in the desert. I usually pick my monents when to go to the hotsprings, always on a weekday and earlier the better. From my perspective, things have been pretty mellow. But then again, I havent soaked in deep creek hot springs in quite some time. Now that the creek is down, I may go and do some fly fishing while I'm there. Saline valley was nice last spring. There are two sides to every story and it's like some have suggested.
