Since civilization began, there has been a strong belief in the healing powers of hot springs. They are defined as geothermal heated bodies of water which rise to the surface bringing with them the dissolved pure minerals of the Earth. Soaking in them has said to have cured skin wounds, muscle troubles and even certain diseases. Native cultures universally utilized the natural waters for healing, purification ceremonies, sacred gatherings, and tribal meetings. So it is no wonder that many cultures still practice these types of rituals today, in a more modern sense.
