Just saw comment "consider a visit if we can secure an adequate vehicle" lol
Good advice in general. OTOH I've always had crappy POS rental cars of which only
one was decent (Jeep Cherokee). I've had trouble with snow and flat tires. Never stranded,
knock on wood. Worst was spinning a tire off the rim in Grapevine Cyn. Aborted the trip at
bottom of Grapevine & came out with a donut spare on rear (FWD). Just after leaving pass
at top of Grapevine a second tire went Flat with a sidewall cut. No spare at this point so I
had two choices - Pay $1000 or more for a tow or continue driving!
I continued driving dead slow at about 4 mph. Took an hour or two to get to paved Rt 190.
Contacted Millers Towing in Lone Pine and since I was now on the paved road I got a free
AAA tow to Lone Pine. They were able to reseat the spun tire for a minimal charge.
Off to Reno on a donut spare. Big O"s in Reno said they never saw a tire shredded so bad
(about 1 inch of rubber all around the rim) but since I drove so slowly they could reuse the
steel rim.
