The Heald Fire is believed to be a lightning fire. Multiple lightning strikes occurred in the surrounding area late Friday night August 3. The fire was initially reported the following day, Saturday August 4, around 12:45 pm.
The fire is burning in the northeast section of the Piute Mountains of the Sequoia National Forest in very rough terrain. As of 6:00 pm it is estimated to be 250 acres in size. Smokejumpers have been deployed to this rugged area and are actively fighting the fire. No containment is estimated at this time.
