Sam D.
Thank you very much!
How accurate is the driving map? I always exited on Milpas and took 144 and 192 and El Cielito Rd dealing with permanent temporary detour along the way.
If I start at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, can I take Mission Canyon Road->Foothill Rd->Mountain Rd-> Gibraltar ???
Sam, yes, that route works fine, plus it does avoid the temporary Barker Pass detour coming in and going up from the other side.
I'm essentially the opposite of Joel when it comes to using a GPS for directions, especially in an area that I'm very familiar with. Having grown up in Santa Barbara, I literally can drive to the Calientes in my sleep! I will admit I bought a GPS last year, but rarely use it for street directions as I tend to rely on hard copy maps. It's probably an old school thing because I'm probably much older than Joel and only slowly embracing new technology.
By the way Sam have you called the Rangers office recently? I was wondering if the landslide on the road down from Romero Saddle has been cleared and if the gate at Romero Saddle is open yet?
