Sam, it's way to far to hike from Los Prietos to Little Caliente in a day unless you are backpacking. Total round trip is about 24 miles. Breaking that down, its roughly 6 miles one way from Los Prietos campground to the Gibraltar Dam, then about another 6 to Little Caliente. Plus right now the water level is too high for a safe crossing at Red Rocks.Your best bet is to keep caling the Forest Service. I would think they should open the gate soon at the top of El Camino Cielo now that the rainsa are hopefully over. I'm also hoping they fixed the landslides on the road going down from El Camino Cielo.
