GOLETA, CA - Los Padres National Forest officials today announced that road paving work on the Santa Lucia Ranger District will temporarily close portions of Figueroa Mountain Road and Sunset Valley Road between June 30 and July 12. These closures are necessary to allow crews to safetly conduct paving operations.

The portion of Figueroa Mountain Road (7N07) beginning two miles east of Figueroa Station and extending west to the Forest boundary will be closed from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm June 30 through July 2.

The portion of Figueroa Mountain Road (7N07) beginning two miles east of Figueroa Station and running east to Cachuma Saddle will be closed from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm July 6-9.

The final stretch of road work in this area will be on Sunset Valley Road (8N09) from Cachuma Saddle to the Nira Campground. This section will be closed July 12 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm for repaving. This work will also affect access to both the Davy Brown and Nira campgrounds.

In all, nearly 25 miles of roads will be improved over the next two weeks.

“These roads are popular with our visitors because they provide access to some of the more scenic vistas on the Forest,” said Santa Lucia District Ranger Kathleen Phelps. “The public will notice a big difference when this work has been completed.”

Forest visitors are encouraged to contact the Santa Lucia Ranger District at (805) 925-9538 for more detailed information about this area and for the latest conditions.
