Having grown up in Santa Barbara, I spent a great deal of my youth at Gaviota Hot Springs (we called it Las Cruces) and all the nude beaches between Gaviota and El Capitan. We have always enjoyed the springs. They were usuallay uncrowded when we went despite the short uphill climb and easy accessibilty from the parking lot. There have been some recent work done by State Parks on the trail and the drainage around the area , and that is probably what you saw. It will not be closing. I'm having some friends up in Santa Barbara checking with the rangers now regarding the status and I'll report back soon.
