Hello, My name is Tyson Butzke and I am a State Park Ranger In the Gaviota Sector. I would like to clarify a couple of things you have listed on your web page. You list Gaviota State Beach, San Onofre Beach (In Santa Barbara), and Vista Del Mar (Secret Beach), as well as Los Cruces Hot Springs as places that can be clothing optional. First off with Gaviota, it is a state park campground and as with all state beaches nudity is expressly prohibited. It is frequented mostly by families and any recent complaints of nudity have met with at a minimum a citation of CCR 4322, and at most arrests for PC 314 Indecent Exposure.
I will say it again for the remaining day use area (Las Cruces Hot Springs, Vista Del Mar, and San Onofre) nudity is prohibited, and enforcement action shall be taken if visitors are discovered there. Your interpretation of the Cahill policy is correct, except that when it was written the stance on public nudity was more tolerated. PC 314 (Indecent Exposure) is listed as a sex crime in California, and carries with it upon conviction lifetime registration in your community as a sex offender.
All of these area are patrolled regularly by both state park peace officers as well as Santa Barbara County Sheriffs, and recent acts of lewd conduct discovered there have been prosecuted to the highest letter of the law.
Again I implore you to A) Remove these listings as "nude" beaches, or at least mention that according to state park regulations that nudity is prohibited in these state park units.
