Big Caliente 2004 tour3-5-04

We visited today Big Caliente hot springs.The road is an
interesting,bumpy drive with nice views.We entered the
Juncal campground , but this one looks dead,guess they closed this
campground a while ago , but no advise anywhere.
At Pendola Ranger Station we noticed that road to Big Caliente
is closed due to rocks on the road,we walked the distance of 2.5
miles to Big Caliente but cannot understand why they closed this
final road just of some small rocks lying around.
The hot spring was disappointing , just a very small pool which in fact
looked a bit dirty,also the area looked dirty.We actually wanted to
go to Little Caliente,but also this road was closed.
Anyone here who can describe Little Caliente , is it worth the drive
or can this one be compared with Big Caliente??
Is there any recommendation for a nice campground in this area
which is in service.Appreciate any information.Good idea would be
that in case roads are closed this would be advised earlier on the road.
All in all this area is really nice for hiking and off course for other
outdoor activities.
