By the end of this week (Friday, July 13th) the US
Senate is expected to
debate their version of the Interior
Appropriations bill on the Senate floor
- which currently has NO reference to extending
Fee Demo! (Unlike the House
of Representatives version, which contains a four
year Fee Demo extension.)
We fully expect an amendment to this Interior
Appropriations bill to be
introduced during Senate floor debate - by whom,
we're not sure - to add
another time extension to Fee Demo. To stop such
an amendment from being
voted in, we urge you to call your two Senators in
DC by Friday noon, this
week, and leave them a brief message.
WHO TO CALL:
Place quick phone calls to YOUR state's two
Senators. See the list below
for Senators from most Western States (and NH)
impacted by Fee Demo. (For
Senators for OTHER states, please check your
phonebook's listing for US
Government offices, under Congress. Call their DC
number, or call the
Capitol switchboard in DC at (202) 224-3121, and
ask to be connected to
Senator...)

WHAT TO SAY:
Leave a brief message like this example below,
with whoever picks up the
phone in each of your Senators offices -
"Please ask the Senator to vote against any
amendment to the Interior
Appropriations bill, which extends the Recreation
Fee Demo program."
If you're asked what number the bill is, it's
2217. If you're asked which
amendment you're referring to, all you need to
answer is any amendment
that's introduced on the Senate floor to extend
the Recreation Fee Demo
program. (It's ok not to know the number of an
amendment!)
Who else can you ask to call this week? Stopping
a last minute amendment
will take a LOT of phone calls!
We thank you for your efforts to stop Fee Demo.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Whatever happens with Fee Demo on the Senate floor
this week, there'll still
be a chance to change the House of
Representatives' version of this Interior
Appropriations bill (which extends Fee Demo by 4
years) in the House/Senate
conference committee, which meets in September.
We'll be asking you to
write letters quite soon!
