My girlfriend and I were at the springs on Saturday, looking forward to another pleasant overnight trip to the Deep Springs area, when someone stole her backpack from where we had left it in one of the clearings a short distance upstream in the trees. The thief left my backpack thankfully and our shoes and her sleeping bag, but they stole her pack with her clothes, toiletries, keys, our flashlight, half our food, and some other sentimental items. Luckily her wallet was in our car. We were forced to hike out at night with no flashlight and return home. Luckily we hiked out with Wizard's nice family who showed us the way.
We are thinking that the assailant took her backpack to search for valuables (of which there were none) and may have left it in the rocks around that area. If anyone finds it amongst the rocks, we are offering a $30 reward. It is forest green, and larger than a daypack but smaller than a big framepack. There are female clothes items (jog bra, underwear) and Georgetown sweatpants and a yellow flashlight. If anyone finds a pack like that, please post this info to this website and/or deliver it to Mike at Bowen Ranch who is aware of the situation. We would so greatly appreciate it, especially since this incident has really soured our view of Deep Creek. I hope that at some point we'll feel good about returning.
Thanks all.
PS I tried to look around the area for where it may have been ditched, but it was already pretty dark and we had to leave soon.
