Beautiful day at the springs yesterday. The hike in is full of flowers of all differant kinds. In some places I walked on a carpet of little dime sized white flowers with yellow centers. Down at the springs above the Arizona pool there are lots of Indian Paintbrush which have real interesting long flower stems. The whole place is awash with the colors of flowers. It sure is nice while it last! Above the Arizona pool someone has planted a new cottonwood tree in the same way the other willow was done. It has a tag on it telling what kind it is. One of the words in the name is Mohave. I like the place it was put since it will be able to get water from the Arizona's pools source and will provide welcome shade for the sandy bank behind it. One possible drawback is that this tree is closer to the creek level than the two willows and might be damaged or killed by big flooding that occurs from time to time. The big flood in the early 90's was probably 8 to 10 feet above the spot where this tree is planted. Hopefully it will be strong enough to withstand the flooding when it occurs. It was a busy day at the springs. The creek is starting to warm up and people are starting to swim in it. Wish we had the beautiful clear waters in the creek. Hopefully well get some bigger floods next year. The hills and the area around the springs is so green with all the springtime growth. Its really wonderful to see in the light at sunset with a warm breeze blowing through the trees! Happy Soakin :-)
