Zoe, Obviously the courts, and the USFS have a differant take on Scott and his actions. I don't think you would find anyone here who hates Scott, that includes myself. If you think Scott has some chance of changing his court situation and sentencing, because something about his case was not done legally, then give him your advice. I personally don't think your efforts on that behalf will change anything for Scott. He taunted and challeged the USFS, he was given warnings by them, and finally, his continued unlawful actions caused the USFS to respond. You make this point about the differance between moral wrong, and legal wrong. Scott did a number of things illegal according to USFS rules, he sold liquor at the springs, he used his campstove at the springs- fire in the Deep Creek canyon is illegal, he camped overnight in family canyon, on an ongoing basis, and even left his things around his campsite-there is no camping allowed in the Deep Creek Canyon, he errected a structure as latrine-thats illegal. I know that there is more that the USFS cited him for. DCHS belongs to the public. Scott behaved as if the place was his, whatever he felt like doing, he did. In fact in my 20 years of visits to DCHS, I have never seen another person do so many adverse things, all by themself, in so short a time. I expressed this to Scott, his words back to me showed that he really didn't care what others thought about what he was doing down at the springs. Its no wonder that things have worked out the way they have for Scott regarding DCHS, and he has no one to blame but himself for his troubles with the USFS, and the courts.
