Glad you got a chance to check out that area I was talking about Laughing Bear. Its just a real shame that some people, show clearly by thier actions, how little they care for beautiful natural settings. I would have cleaned up the site on Saturday but I had limited time both going and returning from my hike. Also I did kinda hope someone else would take a look at that mess so they could see it for themselves. Thanks LB for taking the time to pick up that trash. I was intending on cleaning up that area on my next trip to DCHS, but it looks like you beat me to it :-) Regarding contacting SBSO about this incident, I can relay to them what I saw, and my concerns. I don't know if they keep any record of such complaints. I did have a situation not too long ago where someone living a few houses away from my new property was shooting for an extended time while I was working on our new house. It sounded like they were doing target practice. I didn't appreciate the fact that they were shooting what was clearly either a pistol or rifle right next to other homes, including mine. Also during the couple of hours this shooting went on, I heard the ricochet of bullets every once in a while, and I even heard a couple of them wiz by somewhere overhead, which did make me un-easy to say the least. Finally I felt it was time to call the SBSO. I informed them of the shooting, and where it was coming from. I called the SBSO the next morning to make sure they did check on the situation. They told me the man that lived at the residence I directed them too said he had not been shooting, and that he had heard no shots. Well he was lying, but I can say that I have heard no more gunshooting since then. I have since heard that this man has sold that house and is moving to Lucerne Valley, I am releived about that. It was just plain stupid of this man to be shooting his gun around a neighborhood with homes right next door. My wife, kids and I should be able to enjoy our property, without fearing the flight of this idiots errant flying rounds. I did find out from the SBSO, and from the BLM ( who's lands are right behind our property ), that shooting any kind of gun in the city, San Bernardino County, or BLM lands is illegal, unless its hunting season, and then its only shotguns, not closer than a quarter mile from dwellings. Target shooting is legally done in specified areas. This is what the differant agencies told me. I don't know where Deer Hunting with a rifle fits into this info. Also the agencies said that the same goes for private property too. There is a place off the Bowen Ranch Road, just a ways south of the cattle guard on the right hand side, and before Luna Vista Rd, where there appears to be some private property that is used by folks from time to time. Sometimes you see tents there, at other times I have seen target shooting going on. Just a few weeks ago I saw a number of men with a camp table loaded with various rifles, target shooting there. When they saw me looking at them through my binoculars, you could see by there nervous reactions that they new what they were doing was illegal. My number one concern about thier activity is that given the dry grasses in that area, a ricochet could spark a fire. There have been a couple of fires started this season in So Cal by such activity. Also the hillside they shoot into is northerly, right toward the Powerline Road that I drive. Know one can predict were the path of a ricochet will go.
