Wizard gives a brief report on hiking at De Anza recently, an enjoyable experience.

Richard reports that there is some grafitti upstream. Richard also reports that the overall cleanliness of DCHS on his frequent visits has been good, with occaisonal days of high trash.

Item 10) USFS requests help:

Two USFS resource personnel joined our meeting and requested help in removing Scottish Broom, an invasive and non-native plant that will crowd out native plants along the stream bank. A stand of it is growing just downstream from the springs. Removal can be a difficult process, as the plant propogates from the roots which are difficult to remove. Four DCV members volunteer to help, and a date is set for this Friday, July 2, at 9 am.

Anyone wanting to join with DCV and the USFS in this effort should meet on the beach across from the springs at 9 am on July 2. The USFS will supply the necessary tools. We will cut the plant close to the ground and bundle it up for removal by helicopter. Please check this forum before Friday in case there are any changes to the planned date and time.

The USFS personnel also thanked DCV for our efforts and success in keeping DCHS clean.

After the meeting, DCV members spread out and scoured the area for trash, and also gave the trees a deep watering. Frank was also there doing cleanup. The bags of trash were divided up for carry out by DCV members, Frank, and another visitor who volunteered to help. Scott's teepee tent was dismantled and all but one pole was removed.
