Well, ezzpete, the posts commenting on Scott's crowd were just that...not in any way aimed at you. It seems Scott p.o.'d a lot of people in a number of ways.
Nothing against the 70's, but I don't think anybody wants to see a return to the days when the springs were a "hippie commune" full of trash and high bacteria counts from people toileting too near the stream.
Also, for a time there I heard that the majority of people visiting the springs were in fact single men looking for women. Needless to say, the higher the population of men seeking "a good time," the less comfortable the surroundings are for most women! Kind of defeats the purpose! I'm very pleased that the springs environment now is generally pretty comfortable for women, children, families, and single men.
Since you say you haven't been to the springs since the 70's, perhaps you might want to visit again and make a comparison. If you visit on the last saturday of the month, you'll be there when DCV holds its monthly meeting, and you could meet some of the people who post here. We're not hiding; in fact most of us know each other personally.
Peace...........Sycamore
