The WEMO proposal for Juniper Flats was released and I recieved a copy yesterday as an interested party. Its good news for motorcycle riders and bad news for the rest of the public users. Frankly, I am not suprised here as the project lead, Mike Ahrens, is a former lobbyiest for the OHV industry.
The BLM led by Ahrens and Howard Johnson did an about face within the decision tree process that indicated this trail be closed and sanctioned a single track motorcycle route through Cottonwood Spring and the ACEC. There is another comment period however and the Friends of Juniper Flats as well as interested individuals can let the BLM know how they feel about this officially. Most likely scenerio is the BLM will wind up in court over this decision. More information on who to contact and trail designation numbers will follow.
