The person reporting the booby traps is an individual by the name of Tracy Walters. This individual is one of the OHV activists responsible for creating the illegal mororcycle trail through an archeological area protected with ACEC status. I have personaly observed and spoken with this individual on this trail in the past. He also has an aggreement with the BLM as an OHV volunteer which reimburses expenses for up to $50 dollars a month. His illegal behavior has been exposed and reported to the BLM law enforcement ranger that supervises his activity, Ranger Nelson. I find it unusual that this individual is now "finding" booby traps along J1299.
The LA Times story has given this issue national exposure and the spotlight grows brighter. Local residents were told by Tracy to "not expect any help up there" and other statements were made to imply direct retaliation for standing up to the illegal creation of J1299. I have offered to work with Tracy and the OHV volunteers to educate motorcycle riders and the answer I got was cut fences and rooster tails in the Sacred Cave. The BLM has a responsibility to manage the public lands within the ACEC and they are being held accountable for what is going on up here. Some individuals who "burn"illegal trails are now feeling the heat of the spotlight.
