Thank you all for your good wishes. I will take your advice and keep checking this forum and the weather forecasts as my trip time approaches. I will also look up the photos of DCHS and environs as suggested by Wizard. Laughing Bear, you came across Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook in the Gateway National Recreation Area. It is, as far as I know, the only officially sanctioned clothing optional beach in the Northeast - complete with signage - "Beyond this point you may encounter nude sunbathers". I make it there 2-3 times per summer. It is an experience - 2000 to 3000 people on a sunny Saturday or Sunday.
I will also look-up the DC Volunteer site. I had planned all along to bring some heavy duty trash bags with me when I visit. Until then, good nuding and good soaking! - NJN
