The BLM ranger who has been replacing the signs reports the vandalism to the BLM Field Manager.
BLM is required to provide "safe and convenient access" to the hot springs, consequently WEMO left the door open for changes.
The current route (replacing traditional access on Moss Mill Rd.) was an accommodation of a property owner's request following the Willow Fire. Several concurrent management actions were challenged as ethically questionable. An investigation ensued, and the Barstow BLM Field Office now has new management.
It would seem to be in the property owner's best interests to maintain continued good relations with BLM and also to avoid a public protest over unsuitable access.
