A WINTER STORM WATCH CONTINUES FOR TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY

...A WINTER STORM WATCH CONTINUES FOR TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY
FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES...

.A POWERFUL PACIFIC STORM WILL BRING STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN TO THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...AS WELL AS HEAVY SNOW TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS. PRECEDING THE STRONG COLD FRONT...SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH. LIGHT SHOWERS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE TODAY WITH A DUSTING OF SNOW POSSIBLE DOWN TO AROUND 5500 FEET. THE HEAVIEST RAIN AND SNOW IS EXPECTED THIS EVENING INTO THURSDAY MORNING.

SNOW LEVELS WILL RISE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING TO BETWEEN 7000 AND 8000 FEET. DURING THIS TIME...HEAVY SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE HIGHER PEAKS. LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY MORNING...SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO LOWER TO AROUND 6000 FEET...THEN TO AROUND 5000 FEET BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. BY FRIDAY MORNING...SNOW LEVELS COULD FALL AS LOW AS 4000 FEET.

PEOPLE PLANNING TRAVEL INTO THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOUNTAINS THIS WEEK SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WINTRY WEATHER CONDITIONS. CHECK THE LATEST ROAD REPORTS...AND KEEP IN MIND THAT CHAINS MAY BECOME A REQUIREMENT. REMEMBER TO CARRY EXTRA FOOD...WATER...AND WARM CLOTHING.

FOR TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO THREE FEET ABOVE 7000 FEET...WITH LESSER ACCUMULATIONS BELOW 7000 FEET. IN ADDITION...THERE WILL BE SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS INCREASING TO 25 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
