***On August 18, 1993 letter from the Barstow office released a letter in response to public concerns over Mike Castro's proposed OHV event. BLM acknowledged acknowledged the potential of increased use of the area by OHV motorcycle enthusiasts who "discover" the area by participating in the enduro event. To allay those concerns, an emergency closure starting in September, 1993 was a condition of this permitted event. The emergency closure was effective until route designation was completed in WEMO.***

"This closure is included with the enclosed decision record. It will remain in effect until the official route designation process is completed for the Juniper Flats area. The route designation process has begun and may be completed for the Juniper Flats area in conjunction with the West Mojave Coordinated Resource Management Plan (CRMP). All interested parties and affected interests will have the opportunity to provide input during the route designation process."
