The news account has several inaccuracies.

The truck was not abandoned, but was parked near the trailer of a local resident who was absent at the time. On awakening, she indicated the severity of her distress. Her companion went for help and returned accompanied by another visitor to the Village. (Most of the few residents had already left for the day.) They found her unconscious and very cold. The visitor initiated CPR and instructed her companion to continue while he went for help. Instead of transporting her out, he went back towards Bowen Ranch to make a call, but no one was on site. On his return, he flagged down an approaching vehicle whose occupants had a cell phone.

A 911 call was placed and rescue units and an ambulance were dispatched. A wrecker accompanied the ambulance to pull it through muddy Dead Man's curve if necessary. A Med-evac finally arrived. I was told that the total response time was 45 minutes.

Did the unfortunate hikers not see the nearby trailer or residences in the snowstorm, or did they choose not to break in? Only newspapers were available for warmth, and not blankets as reported. Consequently, wet clothes were not removed.

There were multiple unfortunate decisions and events that cumulatively resulted in her tragic demise.
