There is another article in the local Daily Press which gives further information about the young woman who died from her exposure to the cold. Maybe Rick can pull up a link for it. It says she was 23 and was at DCHS with her boyfriend for her birthday. Earlier reports of three other hikers with them were found to be an error. When it started to rain these two began hiking out and became disoriented as to where thier car was. They ended up hiking until they found an abandoned truck where they sought shelter from the cold. A sad story for this unprepared pair of hikers. Bad weather was the key to this unfortunate incident. Extreme cold and extreme heat are yearly factors to consider when planning day hikes to the remote areas of Deep Creek.
