Tragedy struck this morning in the Village when local residents awoke to frantic screams for help. A Pomona couple left the hotsprings yesterday evening and got lost in the dark hiking out. Somehow, they wound up at a local Village property where they took shelter from the snow and wind in an old broken truck . The man started screaming for help this morning and was discovered by a local resident. His girlfriend was not so lucky and was airlifted out in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics were doing CPR all the way on the lifeless woman. They landed the helicopter on the road in front of my place this morning. I showed up just as the rescue truck was leaving.
This sad sad news really put the damper on what was a really beautiful day. A fresh snowfall blanketed the desert all the way down to the valley floor. Snowfall total in Jupiter Flats was about 3-4 inches. Bowen Ranch Road is really muddy but passable for those who dare. For all you hotspringers who are unaware, this area is not Disneyland. It is rugged, wild and remote. When the sun goes down, it gets really cold quick. Please remember to bring lots of optional clothing and pay attention to weather forcasts. Cellphone reception is really poor unless you happen to be on top of a hill. Allways tell someone where you are going and when you will return. Remember....its winter and Deep Creek is a wild place!
