And.......that transmission tower at Hodge Road probably has a few holes in it.
Several years ago......before the "shotgun only" restrictions, weekends were punctuated with the sounds of gunfire on a regular basis. One resident made a cannon out of an old driveshaft that he would fill with oxy-acetaline from a cutting torch. When the shooters would set up target practice over on the powerline road, he would plug the end with a beer can, fill the tube with oxy-acetaline and light it up through a small hole at the base.....BOOM.......quite often the gunfire would stop and the next thing you heard was a vehicle leaving ! Of course, if the gunfire persisted, so did the cannon fire , much to our amusment. Naturaly..... we had to empty a few more beer cans to provide the ammo for the cannon ! A full can could be defined as a "solid projectile".
