I aggree with Mojave here. The Juniper Flats road connects with JF3 and continues into the forest via 3N59A. This proposed illegal trail only provides a redundant connection with the powerline road where it crosses private property to connect with Bowen Ranch Road.
In rainy years where flooding has washed out Bowen Ranch Road at Paradice, the locals access their homes via Juniper Flats Road. It is the main alternate route and parralels Bowen Ranch Road on the west side. Cottonwood Springs is nestled in a small drainege between the two roads. Both Bowen Ranch Road and Juniper Flats Road provide connection to 3N59 A via the designated JF system. All an OHV enthusiast needs to do to access USFS lands is follow the designated routes provided.
I think Katrina was a little unclear when she made the statement about the illegal trail being a main connector. It clearly is not and was created by illegal activity in recent times. The mistake is understandable however, since its a big desert and the maps can be confusing at times. Clearly this trail violates the spirit of the ACEC and damage to the cultural site has occured. It is my belief that the individuals responsible for the damage should be procecuted and held financialy responsible for restoration costs.
