The events of 9-11-01 have shown us clearly the depravity that exists in the minds and actions of some of those that live with us on this home we call earth. These forces that seek to destroy our sense of humanity will always be with us. The response by our fellow citizens to this assault on the very foundations of our society is nothing less than inspiring. Men and Women meeting the challenge of this most dramatic event with such a sense of spirit and determination. I feel great admiration and respect for their efforts to save the unfortunate souls who were caught up in this fiendish crime against all who strive for a world of understanding and thoughtful consideration for others. America will never be quite the same for us, the living. We do however preside in a place like no other, with the riches of our diverse communities and the wonderful people who inhabit them. As individuals we have the freedom to live out our lives in such unique ways and this is at the heart of our strength as a country. We are all individuals, but we are all Americans, that is the spirit that I see from this event. Now we are faced with the complex task of seeking justice for those lost. If we are to be respected as a society we must find our retribution in a manner that exemplifies to the rest of the world that we only seek to punish those people, groups or governments that perpetrated these heinous transgressions. It is only natural that we would like to bring our wrath down on all who have brought terror and uncivilized acts into this world, but wise restraint and resolution will show us the way to an equitable remedy for our grievances. Does this mean we shouldn't kick some ass for what has been done, of course not! The world however, is complex, and we should, as a nation, be patient in our decisions of grave consequence, as is the case with this catastrophe.
