The BLM fire station in Apple Valley has a realtime recorder that is live. When I worked helitac we used it to determine where to fly recon and look for smokes. I spent a summer chasing lightning fires with them back in the 80s. There are forests on top of some of those barren looking desert mountain ranges. My favorite was the Kingston Range up north of I 15. What a view from the top!
