The Route #3 trail became an alternative route due to the extreme condition of the road beyond that point. If the USFS would improve the road beyond that point just a little bit maybe this Route #3 trail would not even exist. The road beyond this point is not acceptable. In the rain, even 4-wheel drive vehicles can be stuck. The hill is steep, slippery when wet, has a rut right down the center and would damage most vehicles. The USFS should improve the road.
The public has a right to access their public lands without being forced to go through a private business and pay. At this point, the Route #3 trail is the only reasonable public access around the Bowen Ranch. If you are truly trying to support reasonable public access, you should petition the USFS to slightly improve the Route #3 road to the trailhead.
The actions and inactions of the USFS actually resulted in the Route #3 trail. People will always find a way to access their public lands.
