I would like to see the letter to the USFS before it is sent so maybe Ron can E mail me a copy or post it here on this site. I was most happy to hear about the summer rain and we got about an inch up in Juniper Flats. The ground was soaked and the trees were just loving life this morning. No need to water until next week.
The USFS has declared fire hazard as "very high" right now. This is one step below "exterme". The SBNF is a disaster in waiting with all of the dead trees on those steep steep mountainsides from top to bottom. Campfires are banned throughout the forest including developed campgrounds and the forest is tinder dry in most places.
I feel its important as a group to discourage the use of the path that Ranger Brad has focused attention on. I feel strongly about having free access to public lands and working with the USFS on this issue is the best way to preserve it in the Bowen Ranch area. For all of the 2wd free access people, I would like to encourage you to follow the road to the main trail. The USFS can close any area they deem to be "ecologicly sensitive". The extra steps may be worth the effort.
