Hello Paul, there is currently two wheel access to where the route 3 trail starts. It is " legal " to walk anywhere in the USFS lands. So it would not be illegal to walk along the Route 3 trail, the trail you were referring to. This is a reasonable way to access DCHS for those who do not wish to use the Bowen Ranch private property toll access. I have direct knowledge that shows me that certain folks, associated with the Bowen Ranch, will stop you from accessing by that route, even just because they don't like you for some reason. That is why I have supported that there should always be a public access alternative to the Bowen Ranch that does not depend on the private whims of a local landowner. Currently, both of these options are available.
