mermonkey,
I have talked to several thru hikers. It always suprises me when they just stop awhile and keep on going. The only reason to hike is to enjoy the jewels of God`s creation. Deep creek is for sure a good place to relax even after relaxing.
Several folks I have talked to said they started at the fire house in Big Bear. Then made it to the springs about 3-4 pm.
If you go take the map of the S.B. forest. And look for the devil`s hole. Very good for diving and swimming. These maps are at the ranger stations. And Sport Chalet sporting stores.
Also if you want some company you may find some by posting a date and time on this forum. And PLEASE post back here with a trip report.
OH deep creek does not go all the way to Big Bear that is the Pacific Crest trail. And it meanders down to deep creek.
I would not park my car at hook creek. Because the teenagers up there are bored. Know what I mean.
Happy hiking :~)
