My stepdaughter, who is a lifelong Village resident went hiking to the creek not long ago with a friend. Her parents dropped them off at the base of Round Mountain and there was a designated pick up time later on. When she and her friend failed to show up at the pickup point, her Dad waited until is was DARK until he got worried. not knowing what to do,he went to the Bowen Ranch. There was no reason for my stepdaughter to be there but he thought he would check anyway
When Mike learned about my stepdaughter being late in returning,he immediatly went looking for her and her friend on his motorcycle. He found them hiking out between the USFS parking lot and the Round Mountain drop off point. Nobody asked him to go out in the dark and look for them. He just did it. They had gotten turned around a little taking a shortcut from up the creek and were glad to see him.
Mike then rode back and informed her father that the kids were safe. All too often,we hear Katrina's side of this whole thing and we never hear about the good things Mike does. The only thing I have seen Mike do in the few times I have visited is make sure everyone gets a trashbag and educates people about USFS restrictions on glass containers. I dont know Mike well but I do know he has always treated me with respect. In return, he gets the same from me. He is a good neighbor to have up there in my book.
