I saw Jim Pepper's cartoon on Katrina's website and didn't find it funny. I found it to be degrading and insulting to my amigos from Mexico. It's racist slant was unacceptable in my book.
I think we aggree Wizard on free public access issue but the JF4 to JF3 route does require some forthought from those who choose to travell it. Just about every day, someone drives by my place in the Village looking for the Bowen Ranch. We kindly give directions to these lost hotspringers and dont tell them about JF4 or the powerline road. It would be a cruel joke to send these people out into the desert. This route isnt for everyone.
There are some who would like to see a smooth ride on a graded road to a free parking area. This vision would be an expensive proposition and it is highly unlikely that it will happen. One good gullywasher and the road is trashed. No...the desert is the desert. Thats why I love it so much. Its wild and rugged with cactus, rocks and dust. For those who chose to travell the backcountry roads, the joy is in the journey.
