Just because Mike Castro, Kevin and Tanya, own thier LITTLE 80 acre, and 40 acre piece of turf at the end of the Bowen Ranch road, does not mean that folks who travel the open public routes in the area, or who happen to discuss these routes, are obliged, by thier presence as landowners, to police the mis-conduct of other private citizens traveling the open routes in the vicinity. People, are individuals, and are to be held accountable for thier own, individual acts that may show themselves to be degrading to DCHS. The BOWEN CREW needs a scapegoat for the ills that occur at DCHS, so they , in thier STATE OF DENIAL, and citing various arguments of mis-information, try to direct blame for these degrading acts, on THOSE EVIL PEOPLE WHO ACCESS AROUND THE BOWEN RANCH. Mike Castro runs a business and therefore has GUEST/CUSTOMERS. I have never made a dime off of anyone going to DCHS. The people I know that access on the open routes like 4 and 3 are individual public citizens, none of which are running a business which PROFITS from DCHS visitation. The Bowen Ranch Business Advertises to bring in MORE HOTSPRINGS VISITORS. I don't know about any of you, but I have personally NEVER seen Mike Castro down at the springs picking up trash. Can't pick up trash, and collect cash, at the same time. In his 10 years of occupying the Bowen Ranch, after he essentially cut off the Friends of Deep Creek effort, he did get the Bowen Ranch grounds cleaned up, he did advertise in various ways to attract more visitors, but what has he done specifically, DOWN AT THE SPRINGS to take as Kevin put it " moral responsibility " for all the extra visitation he has generated by his efforts. These people at the Bowen Ranch try to mis-direct the focus of where the degradation problems at DCHS, in the very largest portion, comes from, by pointing thier pious fingers at the few people who currently travel the open routes. Its all about smoke and mirrors folks. I can see how people who don't travel the open routes could fall for this ploy since they have no experience out in those open areas. It is never the less a ploy: an action intended to outwit someone. Intended to OUTWIT those in the circle of thier captive audience. Now there are countless trails, open public roads etc in these western states. Lots of people frequent these outdoor avenues of travel which BELONG to the public, NOT to private, for profit, local landowner interest. These public paths and roads do not REQUIRE that there be a Bowen Ranch, or a Mike Castro there to oversee, judge, make profits, or control the flow of visitors to these public places. The people who visit these outdoor destinations are also not OBLIGED to a Bowen Ranch, or a Mike Castro, to not DISCUSS thier adventures and travels in public lands that all of us own. I think what is written on the front of the BOWEN RANCH ADVERTISEMENT , " THE GATEWAY TO DEEP CREEK HOTSPRINGS " implies, on some level, that the Bowen ranch IS THE ONLY conduit of travel to DCHS. Smoke and Mirrors, you want to get to DCHS, you have to go through us, its subtle, and its meant to direct and control public travel in the Bowen Ranch vicinity, THROUGH THE BOWEN RANCH. Mike Castro, Kevin and Tanya, as private landowners in the area, have no more AUTHORITY than any of the rest of us in the general public regarding access. The BLM and the USFS have the AUTHORITY to oversee the public lands surrounding Mike Castro's, Kevin and Tanya's land. These private citizens need to stop pressing thier will, in a beligerant manner, on others in the area, regarding access to DCHS. If they have problems with the access situation, they need to address thier concerns to the BLM and the USFS, the agencies that ACTUALLY CONTROL these public lands, we as americans all own.
