Good thoughts there Mr Wizard. I am one of those DCV members that parks in the wildlands of free access. I also enjoy the many hiden treasures that await in the ravines that lead into deepcreek. As of today ,hiking is not a crime! The old Moss Ranch road did provide good free access to the area however I must respect the private property rights of Kevin and Tanya. So this route is closed today and probably will remain so.
This is not the only way to go. I travel the BLM routes 4 to 3 and park wherever it seems most convenient to hike from. I share the concerns of others and wonder if I will return to find my truck intact. What I see in the future is a designated free parking area accessable with a car. If we as a group get together with others such as the Deep Creek Fly Fisherman and present our case in a rational mannor, this has a chance of becoming a reality. This may take some time but I believe it can be done.
We must be careful not to be offensive to the government agencies that administer these lands and also be respectful of private property owners in the area as well. Free access to public lands is a concept that is acceptable to almost everyone. Its as American as the 4th of July and apple pie.
