I have some experience at this whole topic. I worked for several years on USFS hotshot crews and flew helitac with the BLM fighting fires and working controlled burns all over the west. Controlled burning is not an exact science. There are many variables and fire creates its own weather.
For all of the mountain residents up the hill in Lake Arrowhead and Crestline, all I can suggest is that you keep your valuables where you can grab them fast. Have an escape plan ready and clear the brush around your house. If a big fire hits, RUN Like Hell.
When the Willow Fire hit the village, it was upon us very quickly. My daughter ran into a wall of flames and had to turn around to escape by driving down a wash. She could have easily been killed. My place went up like a torch and the heat melted everything alluminum into a puddle. The exit out of the Village was blocked by a wall of fire. Some chose to drive blindly through and fortunatly made it.
So tell us Eastbay....do you have any experience with fire other than what you have read? I have misgivings about burning the Deep Creek drainage. Too rugged ,too remote, too steep and.....no access roads. Its a recipe for disaster. Small burns are more managable but ultimalty who is responsible for burns that get away?
