hahahah I love hearing about bears. I have been hit in camp sites a few times and found the only thing to do SAFELY is to place cans or pans around your food with amonia in it, the bear gets a whiff of it and it knocks out the sense of smell without doing any harm to the bear. It works well. Before I get any flames off that amonia trick - yes I already know that it could be potentially bad for the land - but over all safer for humans. This was told to me by a ranger and believe me, if you are careful with the amonia, nothing goes wrong. Just a trick if interested. Finding out that a 99 cent bottle of amonia is much cheaper than buying weeks worth of groceries over and over can be expensive.
