It's most likely the bear came down from the Arrowhead area. To echo Katrina's sentiments, it is extremely important not to leave food residuals of any sort at the springs. Once they discover some, they will tend to hang around and bring their friends. Even with black bears, which these are, you never want to get between a Mom and her cubs.
I have had several encounters with black bears, mostly in Canada, but of course in Yosemite too. We had a bear completely demolish my camper shell because he spied a cooler shaped object covered by a towel- it was only my firewood.
Another time in Jasper in British Columbia, a huge black bear came into camp and climbed in and out of every dipsey-dumpster looking for food. Rangers had to tranquilize him and haul him many miles away.
